This course introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Students are exposed to four broad conceptual themes: Exploring Data, Sampling and Experimentation, Anticipating Patterns, and Statistical Inference.
Advanced Placement Statistics is a course based on content established by the College Board. The purpose of the AP course in statistics is to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Topics include: (1) exploring data: describing patterns and departures from patterns (2) sampling and experimentation: planning and conducting a study, (3) anticipating patterns: exploring random phenomena using probability and simulation, and (4) statistical inference: estimating population parameters and testing hypotheses. Recommended Grade Level: Grades 11 or 12
Recommended Prerequisite: Algebra II or Integrated Mathematics III
Credits: 1 or 2 semester course. 1 credit per semester. Due to the level of rigor, it is recommended that AP Statistics be offered as a 2 semester, 2 credit course. Counts as a Mathematics Course for the General, Core 40, Core 40 with Academic Honors and Core 40 with Technical Honors diplomas
