Indianapolis Classical Schools Message to Our Community

Dear ICS Families,

This week has been undeniably hard as we grapple with the recent death of George Floyd and the ongoing realities of systemic racism and inequities on top of the challenges of COVID-19.  Our hearts and minds are burdened as we struggle to discern how best to respond and act.

Today, we are so grateful that Herron and Riverside High Schools are intentionally diverse communities.  This is, in fact, the most important part of who we are.  While we strive to provide the highest quality of education, we do so first out of a commitment to create safe, respectful, loving schools for our young people who represent so many backgrounds, races, religions, families.  To see the mistreatment of Black people in our society is unconscionable and unacceptable.

Indianapolis Classical Schools is committed to our responsibility to our diverse communities, especially in this time to our students of color.  We mourn that we cannot be together in person to process, to learn, to heal, and to act, but we remember the call from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to pursue a “Beloved Community”, and we acknowledge that, as he said, “this will require a qualitative change in our souls as well as a quantitative change in our lives.”  We all must work to actively end the racism and injustices that exist in our society; it is our hope and prayer that this work will be done safely and peacefully for all, protesters and law enforcement alike.

Here are mental health resources to support us as we process through this time:
